Petaling Jaya – Media Prima Berhad (MPB) has announced the appointment of Dato Amrin Awaluddin as the new Group Managing Director of MPB effective 1 September 2009. Dato Amrin, who is currently MPB’s Group Chief Operating Officer (COO), replaces outgoing Group Managing Director/CEO, Abdul Rahman Ahmad, who in May 2009 announced his departure from MPB after eight years of service upon the expiry of his contract on 31 August 2009. Dato Amrin will also be assuming all positions at the Group and subsidiaries level vacated by Abdul Rahman. Dato Amrin has been with the MPB Group for more than 8 years initially as the Chief Financial Officer of TV3, he was then appointed as MPB’s first Group Chief Financial Officer in 2003. During that period, he was involved in the acquisitions and restructuring of 8TV in 2003, ntv7, TV9, Hot FM and Fly FM in 2005, and the successful consolidation of the outdoor business through the acquisitions of Big Tree Outdoor Sdn Bhd, UPD and The Right Channel Sdn Bhd. Dato Amrin thereafter served as the Chief Executive Officer of ntv7 in 2006 and TV3 in 2008, where he oversaw the successful turnaround of ntv7 and continued and growing success of the No.1 Malaysian television network. Over the last three months, as COO of MPB Dato Amrin has been working closely with the outgoing Abdul Rahman and Datuk Johan Jaaffar who was appointed earlier as the Executive Chairman of MPB to ensure a smooth succession during the transition period with minimal disruption to the business and operations of the Group.
