Singapore – The Asian Food Channel (AFC) launched its self-made original production in high definition with a documentary on palm oil – an essential basic ingredient in Asian cuisine. The documentary examines how and why the global demand for palm oil is skyrocketing and what impact this is having on the environment in Asia. The palm oil industry is estimated to be worth US$17 billion annually to Malaysia alone. The programme describes both sides of the argument, providing viewers with all the facts to make up their own minds about the fate of this liquid gold. It looks at the environmental impact that the expansion of palm oil plantations is having in the region, and why palm oil is becoming a lucrative industry for many developing nations especially in Asia. AFC intends to build their portfolio of self-made programmes in the coming months. Each programme will focus on a variety of global cuisines, generating greater knowledge and understanding of all elements of food.
