Miami – Marcos Santana, president of Telemundo Internacional, and Xavier Aristimuño, VP of business development in Asia, traveled through the Asian continent for three weeks to consolidate relationships with the company’s clients, to develop new business opportunities, to co-produce and exchange know-how and expertise. The Telemundo Internacional executives visited Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia. They held several meetings with executives from the most influential Asian Media Groups including SBS in Korea, Tohokushinsha and Shochiku in Japan, ABS-CBN in Philippines, VBC and BHD in Vietnam, CTN in Cambodia, Indosiar, RCTI, Trans TV, SCTV, TPI, and MD Entertainment in Indonesia, and TV3, MTV7, Channel 9, and RTM in Malaysia. Telemundo Internacional says it is currently the only company with telenovelas airing in local language in countries like Korea, Cambodia and Vietnam. During the next quarter, Telemundo will have new productions launching including finished productions as well as formats adapted to local markets. The executives encountered a visible trend in Asia to only purchase worldwide successful telenovelas to program in the time slot dedicated to the Latin American genre, and at the same time acquire winning titles to adapt them to their local culture by producing shorter versions. In that sense, Telemundo Internacional’s has positioned itself as one of the most respected companies as a result of the quality and performance of its productions and is now leveraging on its production know-how in order to develop new business ventures in the continent.
