Singapore – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) will launch a slew of new British content on its mio TV platform from 15 July, and the US TV Pack, a new service that allows customers to watch a selection of US TV series anytime, on-demand at a fixed monthly rate. Announcement comes immediately after news that three BBC Worldwide Channels will move from mio TV exclusively to StarHub TV from 1 August 2009. SingTel says, “As part of the channel restructuring, the current BBC linear channels on mio TV will no longer be available and all customers will be notified about the changes.” mio TV’s ‘British Drama’ and ‘British Documentary’ will feature selected dramas and documentaries just one month after their UK telecast, offering on-demand first-run and never-seen-before drama and documentary titles from BBC Worldwide TV Sales & Distribution and ITV Global Entertainment Ltd. On ‘British Drama’, titles from BBC include the latest seasons of Hotel Babylon, Dr Who and Torchwood; while ITV will offer Britannia High, The Prisoner and My Boy Jack. ‘British Documentary’ includes first-run rights to BBC titles such as Life (HD) and Nature’s Great Event. The series featured on US TV Pack are divided by genre into four packs – Crime, Drama, Entertainment and Thriller. US TV Pack features the series that have recently completed their run on mio TV’s Season Pass. Four or five fresh episodes are added to each TV series each month, and will stay on the channel for repeated viewing for two months. There will be at least five series in each genre pack at any one time, and new titles will be added in the coming months. Titles available at launch include the latest seasons of Gossip Girl, Prison Break, Supernatural, The Mentalist and Grey’s Anatomy. As at 31 March 2009, SingTel had 78,000 mio TV subscribers.
