Hong Kong/Taiwan – Hong Kong operator PCCW is seeking to work together with Taiwanese telco Chunghwa Telecom on IPTV services, reports the Economic Daily News. The two companies have previously signed a letter of intent on a proposed IPTV cooperation in 2006, but Chunghwa Telecom was blocked from carrying out the agreement by Taiwanese restrictions on China-related investment, as well as regulatory curbs on IPTV development, according to the paper. PCCW reached an installed base of 953,000 subscribers for its IPTV service now TV by the end of 2008, with 686,000 of these being paying customers, while Chunghwa Telecom had reached 686,000 subscribers for its IPTV service Multimedia-on-Demand (MOD) by the end of the first quarter of this year.
