Beijing – IPSTAR Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of THAICOM Public Company Limited, and Comtech EF Data Corporation jointly announced its cooperation to provide integrated satellite backhaul solutions for mobile (and WiMAX) networks. The offering is expected to be the largest scale and most cost-effective solution of any satellite-based mobile backhaul in Asia-Pacific. Both companies have been cooperating on product and technology tests, type approvals and actual deployments on IPSTAR Ku-band platform with several mobile operators and system vendors in several countries for both 2G and 3G networks, with promising results and future development roadmap. The integrated BTS backhaul solutions are available for 2G/2.5G GSM and CDMA2000-1X, and 3G/3.5G/4G WCDMA/HSDPA and CDMA/EV-DO to serve the fast growing 3G deployments especially in the recent largest 3G markets like China and India, with 3 options of pure All-IP backhaul and modem, pure E1 backhaul and modem, or hybrid broadband backhaul and Memotec IP-E1 converter. The business models include the quick interim backhaul for 3G deployment serving 3G competition, the cost effective solution for rural/remote deployment servicing government’s rural policy, and the backup servicing government’s disaster policy.
