Mumbai – Latest reports from India indicate an out-of-court settlement might be reached in the dispute between Multi Screen Media (MSM) Pvt Ltd (formerly Sony Entertainment Television) and the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) over domestic telecast rights for Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket. MSM took BCCI to court last week after the Board cancelled the 2008-struck broadcast rights deal on March 14, claiming MSM had breached the conditions of the contract. The original deal, believed to be around US$1.1 billion, gave MSM the domestic broadcast rights for ten years, to the IPL cricket tournament that launched last year. MSM sought an injunction to prevent BCCI negotiating a fresh contract until their dispute was resolved; BCCI said it had signed a new US$66 million deal with World Sports Group (WSG) for the 2009 IPL season. Several other channels, including ESPN, are believed to be in touch with both the BCCI and WSG about the upcoming IPL season.
