Doha – The first pan-Arabic preschool channel, Baraem, officially went to air 16 January 2009, from its headquarters in the Education City, Qatar. Aimed at children aged 3 to 6 and their parents, Baraem airs up to 15% of its own produced content and up to 85% of acquired programs selected from international production houses matching the Channel’s editorial policy and broadcast guidelines. Having initially launched Al Jazeera Children’s Channel (JCC) in 2005, executive general manager, Mr. Mahmoud Bouneb stated, “The launch of Baraem Channel has effectively led JCC to readdress its age group. As a result JCC today addresses children aged 7 to 15 producing up to 60% of its own programs; one of the highest ratio of own-produced content of any children’s channel world-wide.” Baraem is owned by Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development.
