Singapore – Chitra Rajaram has been appointed to the newly created position of director of Newsplex, MediaCorp. She will lead the development of MediaCorp’s new convergent newsroom which pools the newsgathering resources of the company’s television, radio, press and interactive media platforms. Convergence recently started with the business desks of Channel NewsAsia, 938Live and TODAY coming together. Next up will be the sports desk, with convergence targeted for completion by April 2010. In due course, all of MediaCorp’s reporters from the different media genres will work under the Newsplex, grouped according to their specialized areas of specialization or beats rather than platforms. The Newsplex, under Chitra’s leadership, will then be providing news tailored for the different platforms. Chitra will concurrently be appointed as chief editor of radio news, overseeing the news across the company’s 13 radio stations. The other chief editor roles in MediaCorp are undertaken by Debra Soon (Channel NewsAsia) and Walter Fernandez (TODAY). Chitra will report to Shaun Seow, deputy CEO of NRP (News, Radio & Print) cluster.
