Mumbai/Hong Kong – Parent company STAR Group says JALSHA launched successfully in West Bengal, India by garnering 92 gross rating points in its debut week. The channel grew the entire Bengali general entertainment segment in West Bengal by 7 percent. “The opening week numbers of STAR JALSHA are a good and encouraging start,” said J C Giri, regional channel head, STAR India. “The opening week of the channel is really a testament to the differentiation we have introduced for Bengali viewers and we are confident that STAR JALSHA will build on this momentum and continue to grow from strength-to-strength.” STAR JALSHA becomes the third most highly rated GEC in West Bengal, overtaking one of the market’s long-standing players Aakaash (Bangla). It launched with a 45 percent reach in West Bengal, putting it in the same league as its main competitors Zee Bangla and ETV Bangla, say STAR.
