Singapore – HBO Asia has launched several key digital initiatives introducing new applications online which serve as an easier way to access schedules and information from all over the web. HBO Asia now offers program information through a desktop widget, as well as on popular social networking site Facebook. Additionally, HBO Asia is leveraging the massive video site YouTube with a contest targeted at the youth market where winning videos are offered a first-ever chance to be on HBO. Building on its digital presence to spread the buzz about Flight of the Conchords, a HBO Original musical comedy series which debuted on September 3 that revolves around the adventures of transplanted New Zealanders Jemaine and Bret who live in New York City’s Lower East Side, HBO Asia is organising the I ♥ Flight of the Conchords Trailer Contest via YouTube. Over on the social networking side, HBO Asia has created a special page where weekly highlights and trailers of premiering blockbusters can be found, and fans can make use of Facebook’s in-built capabilities to comment on the channel and various shows. Also found are custom applications on HBO Asia’s Facebook page that draw from its website real-time information about the top 25 movies and top rated movies. HBO has also introduced Movie Buff on Facebook – a movie trivia game about the titles offered on HBO each month. Trivia players can choose to play Movie Buff individually or against their friends. The highest scoring individual stands to win an iPod shuffle. The HBO Widget is a tool that brings daily schedules of HBO Asia’s five channels – HBO, HBO Signature, HBO Family, HBO Hits and Cinemax – to a user’s desktop.
