New Delhi – Discovery Networks Asia Pacific has applied to launch three channels – Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery HD in India by the first quarter of 2009. The company’s application for licences has been submitted applied to the ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Discovery Networks India SVP & general manager Rahul Johri said that changing market dynamics, research and viewer feedback suggests that Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery HD will satisfy the demands and desires of an aspirational India and further strengthen the networks’ portfolio. Discovery currently has 93 million cumulative subscribers in India – 36.5 million for Discovery Channel; Animal Planet at 29.5 million and Discovery Travel & Living at 27 million. Globally, Discovery has 29 network entertainment brands, with 19 brands internationally (outside the US).
