During the G8 Summit, being held in Japan 7-9 July 2008, global French-language network TV5MONDE is being broadcast live on prototype mobile phones lent out to the attending delegates, officials and the press. Next to TV5MONDE Asie, broadcast for the Canadian and French delegates, six other channels each representing one participating country will be available: NHK World TV, CNN Headline News, BBC World News, Rai International, Deutsche Welle TV and RTR Planeta. This experiment, supported by the Japanese government, and handled by Japanese sole public broadcaster NHK, telco operator NTT and internet and mobile service provider KDDI, will showcase the brand new multi-channel broadcast system for mobile terminal, called’multi-One-Segment’. This technology can broadcast a maximum of 13 video channels for mobile terminals in the conventional one broadcasting bandwidth.
