Singapore – BBC Entertainment will be available in StarHub Digital Cable’s Lifestyle Basic Upsize Group from 1 August 2008. BBC Entertainment’s future on the platform came into serious question when the GE channel was omitted from StarHub Digital Cable’s channel repackaging and ratecard issued end – May 2008. But an on – screen crawler that appeared on air a fortnight ago stated that the channel’s continued availability from 1 August 2008. Television Asia Plus received a joint response from StarHub’s head of cable TV services Patrick Lim and senior vice president and general manager, BBC Worldwide Channels Asia, Christine Leo – McKerrow said: “StarHub and BBC Worldwide Channels were finalising terms for the continued carriage of BBC Entertainment on StarHub Digital Cable. Negotiations have recently concluded, and we are pleased to inform viewers in Singapore that BBC Entertainment will continue to be carried by StarHub and is presently available as part of the Lifestyle Basic Upsize Group.” Asked how StarHub felt about BBC channel brands, available on a rival pay – TV platform, being trailed on BBC Entertainment, the joint response was as follows: “As many of the channels carried on StarHub’s cable TV platform are transmitted simultaneously to other countries in the region, it is not unusual for a handful of channels to include advertising or promo spots that are not tailored for viewers in some countries. StarHub understands the situation and has no concerns over the promos aired over BBC Entertainment.”
