Bangkok – Saha Mongkol Film is to invest 70 million baht (US$2.2 million) over the next two years to operate three movie channels via satellite TV. Best known for its film production, the company has created a new subsidiary Thai Mongkol Multimedia Plc to operate the satellite TV business, headed by president Akarapol Techaratanaprasert. The Thai pay-TV industry is set to grow since the Radio and Broadcasting Act took effect March 2008. Cable-TV operators will be granted 15-year licences from the still to be established regulator. The company’s first satellite TV channel will be Mongkol Channel, mostly broadcasting Thai movies, with two additional channels – Hollywood and Asian Channel – scheduled for launch next year. The test run of Mongkol Channel is set for Jun 10, prior to official launch early July.
