New Delhi – YouTube, subsidiary of Internet search giant Google, has launched an Indian version of the video-sharing website at www.youtube.co.in with a localized homepage and search functions highlighting popular and relevant videos in India. YouTube India inked partnership deals with local media firms including Eros Entertainment, Rajshri Films, NDTV, UTV, Zoom TV, India TV and Krishcricket, as well as Indian International Film Academy (IIFA), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the Ministry of Tourism for content to be made available on the localized site, which also targets to reach out to international Indian diaspora communities. YouTube’s chief technology officer and co-founder Steve Chen said, “YouTube India will not only offer Indian users more relevant content but also provide a platform to share unique and diverse culture and lifestyle with the largest online video community in the world.” The Indian partnerships add to YouTube’s international tie-ups with content providers including CBS, BBC, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, NBA and The Sundance Channel.
