Nonthaburi, Thailand – THAICOM Plc, commercial satellite operator and the operator of the IPSTAR satellite broadband system, has clinched 22 service contracts worth US$33million with television channels and telcos for its satellite bandwidth services on the THAICOM platform in Q1, 2008. A total of 11 new TV channels joined the THAICOM-5 satellite to bring the total number of channels to over 240 on a single platform, with many using the THAICOM Teleport and DTH Center at Ladlumkaew, Pathumthani Province. New customers include India’s telco Airtel and broadcaster Korhinoor Broadcasting, as well as Pakistani broadcaster PAK Television Network and AKS Communication. Komson Seripapong, head of marketing for THAICOM Satellites, THAICOM Plc., said, “Apart from the high growth IPSTAR business, our THAICOM conventional satellite business is still a major source of revenue for the company. It … is an indication of the continued growth we expect from this business in 2008.”
