Singapore – MediaCorp TV Channel 5 was fined S$15,000 (US$11,000) by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) for airing an episode of acquired series Find and Design which featured a homosexual male couple renovating a room into a nursery for their adopted child. The regulator alleged the episode of the home and decor show “normalises (the) gay lifestyle and unconventional family setup” and had breached the Free-to-Air TV Programme Code which prohibits programming that promotes homosexual lifestyles. The penalty was imposed following MDA’s consultation with its Programme Advisory Committee for English Programmes which deemed the show “inappropriate” especially when aired on Sunday morning, part of “family viewing hours”; and that it was MediaCorp’s second offence following the airing of a scene of a female homosexual couple kissing on drama series Without a Trace in 2007 which resulted in a S$5,000 (US$3,700) fine.
