CNN International and Samsung Electronics have partnered to offer CNN’s new mobile Java application to offer multimedia news to consumers via mobile, exclusively pre-loaded into Samsung handsets from June 2008. The agreement provides a six-month window for Samsung to be the exclusive device manufacturer to host CNN’s Java service that was launched February 2008 at the GSMA Mobile World Congress. The partnership covers Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. CNN’s Java application enables users to prioritize categories, provides quick access to top stories via the animated news flipper, advertisements, and the hourly on-demand ‘CNN World News Now’ video headlines. A 360-degree globe and interactive maps allow users to search more than 1,000 cities worldwide for five-day weather forecasts. User can also submit iReports to CNN’s citizen journalism website by sending images or video from mobile handsets via a built in bookmark. CNN Java service-integrated Samsung handsets will offer one-click access to CNN’s news reports and images. Roll out will begin with the Samsung G810 handset to be available in Asia in the 2nd half of 2008, and will be extended to other handset models.
