San Diego – Qualcomm Inc., developer of wireless technologies and data solutions including the MediaFLO broadcast to mobile standard, has acquired Xiam Technologies Ltd, an Irish developer of wireless content targeting solutions for US$32million. The transaction will not affect Qualcomm’s fiscal 2008 earnings. Through the acquisition, Qualcomm plans to offer Xiam’s personalized targeting and recommendations technology, My Personal Offers System (MPOS), as a standalone product through Xiam as a wholly-owned subsidiary, as well as offer it as part of Qualcomm’s core solutions as a subscriber intelligence and personalization tool. MPOS provides targeting and personalization of user experience by presenting relevant content offers and advertisements to consumers over web and mobile platforms. Using advanced demographic, contextual and behavioral profiling techniques, MPOS enables mobile operators and brands to make recommendations to individual consumers tailored to unique tastes and preferences. Consumers can receive personalized offers of new and relevant content over wireless and web channels, before and after purchase. Andrew Gilbert, executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Qualcomm Internet Services, MediaFLO Technologies and Qualcomm Europe said, “Qualcomm’s acquisition of Xiam provides us with advanced content discovery and recommendation technology that strengthens Qualcomm’s services portfolio. With this acquisition, we are excited to further demonstrate our ongoing commitment to operators, brands and consumers worldwide.”
