National Geographic Television International (NGTI) will bring its largest ever slate of independent productions to MIPTV, to be held from April 7-11, 2008 in Cannes. New at MIPTV will be four 4-hour wildlife programmes from Dutch producer Nature Conservation Films including Cheetahs: Against the Odds, Elephant: Return to the Wild, The Fawn Identity, and Out of the Blue, which examines human’s relationships with whales and dolphins. From Australia, YNR Marketing/Ocean Planet Images’ Humpbacks: From Fire to Ice (1 x 52’), narrated by David Attenborough, is an HD show following a humpback whale and its calf’s journey from Hawaii to Alaska and back. Hatching Productions, Film of Record and Freshwater Pictures released The Burning Season (1 X 52’) a programme made for ABC, CBC and BBC, centering on an environmentalist’s efforts to save orang utans from Indonesian rainforests that are being destroyed. Also available is Dead Tired! (2 x 52’), a science show from Australia’s Paul Scott Films. In addition, from 360 Degree Films is Seed Hunter (1 x 52’), which follows Dr Ken Street’s investigations into the genetic base of food and his global search for crops that can survive climate change. Seed Hunter was produced for WGBH/Nova. US-based Towers Productions has provided the second season of contemporary history series The Final Report (8 x 47’) with titles including The Oklahoma City Bombing, The Battle for Fallujah, Exxon Valdez and The Green River Killer. Other new shows are In Search of a Legend: Black Leopard (1 x 52’), from South Africa’s Nationwide Distributors, and Rebels of History: Hannibal, from Germany’s Zeitfilm.
