Beijing – Irdeto, specialist in content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile networks, has inked a deal with Shanxi Cable Broadcasting Network to provide the Irdeto digital TV conditional access solution including one million smart cards over 24 months for the latter’s digital migration. With four million cable TV subscribers in Shanxi province, Shanxi Cable will migrate from its existing Irdeto CryptoWorks system to the Irdeto Digital TV content security system which will be installed in Shanxi’s capital city, Taiyuan. The new system is a modular, platform-independent system that allows operators to grow subscriber base while ensuring content and business model protection. The solution is standards-based and meets industry standards including DVB Simulcrypt versions 1 and 2. Currently, more than 300 digital TV operators worldwide are using security technologies and strategies including the FlexiFlash functionality which allows for new functionalities and security upgrades to be downloaded over the air to smart cards in the field. According to Media Partners Asia, China had 140million cable subscribers as of 2006, and is expected to grow to 184 million by 2011, with digital cable TV subscription to hike from 10million to 61million over the same period.
