Singapore – The final showdown of Muay Thai reality show The Contender Asia will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday April 12 2008, according to one of the show’s executive producers, Imagine Omnimedia’s Riaz Mehta. The finale will be staged to coincide with the last episode of the show, which is currently airing across Asia on AXN. The winner will be crowned Contender Champion and take away a prize pool of US$250,000. The victory will also be recognized by the World Muay Thai Council. Television Asia Plus was told that it was only fitting to hold the finale in Singapore, given the support provided to the show by Singapore Tourism Board, MDA and AXN. Las Vegas and Macau had also been mooted as possible venues for the final fight. The 15-episode reality series follows the fights and experiences of 16 middle weight division Muay Thai exponents from 14 countries, living, working and competing in two groups within the purpose-built The Contender House in Singapore. Imagine Omnimedia partnered US-based Mark Burnett Productions and DreamWorks SKG to produce the reality series. The deal was facilitated by the Media Development Authority of Singapore and received financing from DBS Bank. The show is also being supported by the Singapore Tourism Board’s Film in Singapore! scheme.
