Mumbai – UTV Software Communications has launched its own music label – UTV Music – with the movie soundtrack of Jodhaa Akbar. Starring Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the movie’s soundtrack was previously scheduled to be handled by ADAG Big Music. UTV Music is being headed up by UTV’s executive vice president, marketing, distribution and syndication, Siddarth Roy Kapur. UTV has tied up with Sony BMG for the physical distribution, broadcasting and publishing rights of the music it will release. UTV will retain the digital rights of the releases. Film music, particularly from Bollywood fare, is India’s dominant audio genre. UTV has some 20 movies in the pipeline, and has teamed up with Sony BMG for the physical distribution, broadcasting and publishing rights of the music it will release.
