ContentFilm, media rights owner and distributor of film, TV, DVD and digital content, through its acquisition and distribution division, Fireworks International, signed a deal with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to acquire international distribution rights and assets managed by CBC’s international sales division. Subject to due diligence, the transaction of which financial terms were not disclosed, the deal is expected to be completed early in 2008. Deal includes CBC’s programme catalogue of 135 titles comprising 700 hours of TV programming including dramas, documentaries, arts and entertainment, lifestyle shows, and other genres which add to Fireworks’ TV assets. All liabilities and receivables associated with the catalogue have also been transferred to Fireworks. The agreement does not affect CBC’s broadcast rights or its archives. Steve Billinger, CBC Executive Director of Digital Programming and Business Development said, “Looking at our international sales activities, we determined that we lacked the scale and the resources required to be competitive in a market dominated by large, specialised firms. Fireworks, and its parent, ContentFilm, are among the most respected organisations in the industry. We’re confident we can reach more potential customers through them than on our own.”
