Sydney – The Seven Network is punting heavily on a raft of new Australian dramas and factual shows to help maintain its supremacy in 2008. Packed to the Rafters will join City Homicide, All Saints and Home and Away on its roster of local dramas. It stars Erik Thomson and Rebecca Gibney as a couple who’ve been married for 25 years, with three grown-up children who each face dilemmas and conflicts. An in-house production, it’s from the team responsible for All Saints, created by Bevan Lee and scripted by Anthony Ellis, with Jo Porter as executive producer. Seven says several distributors are keen to secure the international rights. Granada will produce Battle of the Choirs, touted as the search for Australia’s favourite choir, revealing some “touching personal stories.” Among other new offerings, all produced by Seven, are Bush Doctors, an observational documentary series which lifts the lid on the challenges facing doctors and nurses in rural Australia; The Zoo, a behind-the-scenes look at the animals and people at some Australian zoos; Outback Wildlife Rescue, which will feature wildlife vets, animal carers and a crocodile management team; and a new series of Gladiators.
