FOX and National Geographic Channel (NGC) have topped the first Peoplemeter research for cable and satellite channels in Japan. The first week’s data released by Video Research Ltd. places FOX as the top entertainment channel and fourth rated channel in primetime ratings among 38 channels which include movie services and Japanese drama channels. FOX rated fourth following two animation channels and a sports channel which aired the Japanese professional baseball league playoff. NGC topped primetime ratings for documentary channels. Video Research Ltd. has been conducting bi-annual diary surveys in Japan and recently switched to the Peoplemeter methodology using set-top boxes. The panel comprises 600 multi-channel homes in Tokyo and Osaka and tracks up to seven members of each household to measure viewership. Data is captured in 5 minute blocks; 60 channels are measured but only data for the 38 subscribing channels is revealed.
