Hong Kong – Animax, the anime-focused youth entertainment channel, has launched Animax Mobile in Asia following its debuts in Canada and Australia earlier this year. Now available in Hong Kong on SmarTone-Vodafone’s FoneTV mobile TV service, Animax Mobile is also slated for launch in Taiwan in early November with talks underway with various Taiwanese carriers. Animax Mobile is a monthly subscription-based service that streams full-length anime series to mobile users. Targeting the youth market, specifically the 15–35 demo, Animax Mobile serves up to four popular Japanese anime series in English dubbed versions: Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, Blood+, R.O.D. the TV and Last Exile. In addition to full-length episodes shown in a two-hour loop, anime is also available in short clips of 5 – 7 minutes. “Animax enjoys great distribution in both Hong Kong and Taiwan and this expansion to mobile not only builds on the brand loyalty of Animax, it gives users an additional source in which they can enjoy their favourite anime series, whenever they want, wherever they want,” said Ricky Ow, General Manager, SPE Networks – Asia.
