Singapore – Walt Disney Television International has launched its first Jetix-branded Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) service in Asia via SingTel’s mioTV. Laura E. Wendt, Vice President and Managing Director of Walt Disney Television International (Southeast Asia) told Television Asia that content had been chosen for its ‘stickiness’, noting “These are without a doubt our best Jetix shows.” Quizzed about WDTVI’s decision to launch Jetix on SingTel’s mioTV, rather than with StarHub Digital Cable – which carries Playhouse Disney and Disney Channel – Wendt said SingTel currently has the more robust VOD capability. “SVOD lends itself well to children’s desire to watch something over and again,” she said. The SVOD model permits unlimited viewing of the available content for a monthly subscription fee.
