Sydney- Dominant pay TV platform Foxtel posted a pre-tax profit of $A76 million in the year ending June 30, up from last year’s maiden $A4 million profit, as revenues climbed to $A1.42 billion. Total subscriber base, including wholesale customers, reached 1.44 million, up 12.4%, and more than 16% have taken the Foxtel iQ PVR. Around 45% of subscribers sign up for the platinum package, and less than 5% opt for the lowest-priced package. In the year to June 30, subscription television achieved a 58.8% share in connected households (up from 56.1% in 2006) and 20.8% in all TV homes (previously 18.5%), and churn is below 12%. Earlier this week Network Ten signed a deal to re-transmit its digital signal on Foxtel’s satellite and cable platforms (previously analogue only on cable) and to use Foxtel’s EPG and iQ. That leaves the Seven Network as the only FTA network without a digital retransmission deal with Foxtel. Seven has announced it will introduce the TiVO service in the first half of 2008 in partnership with the digital video recorder pioneer.
