Ratings highlights for August 17 2007 according to Preliminary Fast National Ratings, placed Disney’s High School Musical 2 as the “Most-Watched Basic Cable Telecast Ever”, having drawn 17.2 million viewers to top the previous record of 16 million held by ESPN’s Monday Night Football game on September 23 2006 by 8%. It also ranked as the top “Basic Cable Movie of All Time in Total Viewers”, surpassing the 15.5 million viewers drawn by previous record holder, TNT’s Crossfire Trail on January 21 2001, by almost two million viewers or 38%. High School Musical 2 was also the “Most-Watched TV Telecast on Record in Kids 6-11” with 6.1 million; while its ratings were behind only Super Bowl in 2004 in Tweens 9-14 with 5.9 million. High School Musical 2 has also been billed as “TV’s Most-Watched Friday Telecast in Total Viewers in Over 5 Years”. In addition, the special preview of upcoming series Phineas and Ferb drew 10.8 million viewers while the debut of Disney’s new Hannah Montana episodes stands as “Basic Cable’s No.1 Series Telecast on Record in Total Viewers, Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14”.
