Singapore- Unveiled on the auspicious date of 20.07.2007, SingTel’s IPTV service mio TV has introduced competition to Singapore’s pay-TV market previously dominated by cable TV operator and telco StarHub. Speaking at the launch, SingTel Group CEO Ms Chua Sock Koong iterated that the company supports competition and the availability of choice will benefit consumers. Allan Lew, CEO Singapore, SingTel, noted that the company will invest some S$30 million (US$19.8 million) within this financial year to continue developing mio TV. With the service’s tagline reading “The choice is yours.”, it leverages on allowing channels and programmes to be selected on an ala carte basis with on-demand viewing to set it apart from pay TV offerings characterized by fixed programming schedules and basic tier packages. For on-demand viewing, the mio TV set-top box (STB) allows viewers to search for content by genre, title or names of actors, with shows playing at a click. Subscribers can opt for an STB with recording functions which include a recording capacity of 80 hours, recording programmable from the mio TV website
