Taipei- Health authorities in Taiwan are seeking to ban junk food ads aired between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on four children TV channels, Disney Channel, ETTV YOYO, Cartoon Network and Fubon MoMo Children within a year, according to the United Daily News. An official at the Department of Health’s Bureau of Food Sanitation was quoted as saying the bureau plans to extend the ban to all channels around dinner time. He said some food companies have verbally agreed not to air junk food ads during dinner time. The bureau, which lacks the authority to impose such a ban, has asked the National Communications Commission to introduce regulations to govern junk food ads. On the banned list would be ads for soda, potato chips, fried chicken, French fries and chocolate, the paper added. According to a survey conducted by the Consumer’s Foundation, 96% of consumers would support the ban.
