Singapore– SingTel’s proposed IPTV pay-TV service is expected to be bundled with broadband and voice offerings, rather than launched as a stand-alone service. Having lost out on lucrative EPL soccer rights to incumbent pay-TV provider StarHub Cable Vision, many feel SingTel still lacks the killer content necessary to drive penetration of a stand-alone pay-TV service. While SingTel’s Director for IPTV and Content Low Ka Hoe outlined the new service’s capabilities, any questions regarding content, roll-out, strategy and pricing were not permitted. However, it is expected the new IPTV service will be in line with the January 2007-launched mio Box. At that time, Allen Lew, SingTel’s CEO Singapore said, “We are pleased to introduce Generation mio and give our residential customers the latest IP technology and mobile services, integrated on a single platform through the mio Box. This is just the start of the Generation mio experience, with more exciting services to come.”
