Shanghai- Planet Earth, Born Equal, After Thomas, and Recovery have been nominated for the Shanghai Television Festival’s Magnolia Awards. This year’s fest runs June 11-15. From Pole to Pole, episode one of the Planet Earth series, has been nominated for Best Nature Documentary. Born Equal has received two nominations – Best TV Film and Best Screenplay (TV Film). Meanwhile in the Best Director category, Simon Shore has been nominated for his direction on the true story After Thomas, and David Tennant is a contender for Best Actor for his role in drama Recovery. Winners of the Magnolia Awards will be announced at the fest on June 15. Following the announcement of the nominees, Pierre Cheung, BBC Worldwide Senior Business Development Manager for Asia, said “Our international business in China is booming with recent successes such as our deal with CTV to co-produce Wild China and the commissioning of formats such as Just the Two of Us, which aired last year, and Dancing with the Stars, which starts on Hunan TV this July. The Shanghai Television Festival is a great platform for showcasing British talent to the Chinese market.”
