Cannes- STAR Group Ltd. (STAR) and Balaji Telefilms Ltd. (Balaji) will jointly create a network of regional language general entertainment channels initially targeted at the fast growing South India market. To be headquartered in Chennai, 51% of the venture is owned by STAR, the rest held by Balaji. STAR will be responsible for network operations, while Balaji will produce regional language shows exclusively for the joint venture channels. The partners will pool resources to infuse VIJAY with Balaji content, and will launch a Telugu channel by Q4 of 2007. Channels in Kannada, Malayalam and other key regional languages will be launched within the next few years.
