Hong Kong – National Geographic Channel and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) announced a strategic partnership to cultivate local documentary filmmaking through the Hong Kong to the World documentary production project. The two partners are collaborating to transfer RTHK and National Geographic’s hallmark standards of documentary production to local accomplished filmmakers and develop world-class documentaries to depict Hong Kong and China. The joint aim is to empower local filmmakers with global expertise and local funding, enabling them to produce compelling documentaries about the uniqueness of Hong Kong and China that will delight local audiences and showcase Hong Kong to the world. Co-funded by the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government through the CreateHK office, and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, Hong Kong to the World inspires professional documentary filmmakers with proven track records in the industry to harness their creativity and sharpen their skills. With total funding of over HKD 3 million, this project also aligns with the Hong Kong SAR Government’s initiative to support local documentary film production as a catalyst to develop the local creative industries in Hong Kong. Local filmmakers who have proven track records in the industry are now invited to submit a documentary production proposal at http://www.rthk.org.hk/special/hongkongtotheworld before 11 June 2010.
