New Delhi – American cable network operator Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. is considering India as a television production hub for its global operations. This is the first time a US company is looking to move production into India. Scripps, which had in November last announced buying a 69 per cent stake in NDTV Lifestyle Ltd. for $55 million, said this joint venture would be completed in the first quarter of the new financial year (2010-11). Scripps plans to launch food, travel and home and gardening channels over the next five years in India in high-definition format, hoping to capture an audience amid the growing middle class with disposable incomes. Scripps Networks currently produces content in the US. The company plans to export the content produced in India to South Africa, the UK and the Middle East. Scripps Networks owns Lifestyle Media, HGTV, Food Network, DIY Network, Fine Living Network and country music network Great American Country in the US. It also owns offer-web sites uSwitch, BizRate and Shopzilla.
