TV5MONDE has launched the first global web-based platform to access French-language films on-demand, TV5MONDE+CINEMA. The web-based platform is a partnership between TV5MONDE and UniversCiné, the operator of France’s largest VOD service of independent films originating from some major distribution houses such as Films Distribution, BAC Films, Pyramide and Rezo Films. The service is available exclusively online from TV5MONDE’s website at tv5monde.com/cinema –allowing geolocalization of titles according to broadcasting rights – and it will be rolled out to pay-TV operators and hotels in Europe starting from Q3 2010. In a second stage of development from S1 2011, titles will be subtitled in English and the online platform translated into English to reach out to worldwide audiences.
