The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is the new owner of the rights to the Rose d’Or Festival brand. It takes over the marketing, planning and organisation of one of the world’s most prestigious festivals in the TV industry from Ringier.
The rights, which will go to the EBU officially on August 1, have been sold due to the restructuring of Ringier’s entertainment division. The EBU will immediately begin organising the next festival in Brussels.
The EBU is a Geneva-based association of 74 broadcasting organisations in 56 countries across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Ingrid Deltenre, former director of Swiss Television, is the EBU’s full-time director general.
The Rose d’Or is one of the most important television entertainment festivals in the world. After Montreux, which served as its first venue between 1961 and 2003, the festival has been held in Lucerne since 2004. The core of the festival remains its international competition for TV entertainment programmes.
