Leading independent distributor All3Media International has announced a host of new adaptions for Lion TV’s award winning, evergreen format Cash Cab.
Continuing to prove its longevity in North America, a new version of the Cash Cab format launched this month as Cash Cab Music on AXS TV, Anthem’s music programming channel. This all-new, all-music offshoot of the hit format follows long-time host of Cash Cab Canada Adam Growe surprise unassuming passengers who hop in, only to discover they’re instant contestants in a music trivia game show on wheels. Adam tests their musical knowledge, and just like the original series, every correct answer wins money – every wrong answer earns a strike – and like baseball, three strikes, and they’re out. In Cash Cab Music there’s an exciting new element – if contestants make it to their destination, they can double their winnings and sing for their money on ‘Cash Cab Karaoke’.
Prior to the launch of Cash Cab Music, AXS acquired the Canadian version of the beloved commuter trivia show from All3Media International. Tape sales for Cash Cab Music are also handled by All3Media International.
Also returning to screens in North America is the rebooted Taxi Payant: L’Escouade, the French Canadian version of the format. Commissioned by Bell Media for 130 episodes, the new version currently airs on Noovo as a daily series, produced by the original series producer Zone 3. Previously a near decade long hit for Bell Media, the format has proven popularity in region having aired as a weekly series for 9 seasons.
Jennifer Askin SVP North America commented, “Cash Cab is going from strength to strength in North America; it’s feel-good, hugely entertaining viewing that is brilliantly easy to play along to and the addition of Cash Cab Music represents an exciting evolution for this beloved global brand. It’s also fantastic to see these new iterations of the format whilst ensuring it remains a hugely entertaining, fun, fast-paced ride.”
Lion TV’s format still continues to prove impressive global appeal, recent new commissions for the format include a German reboot of the series, which returned to ProSieben Kabel Einz for a 30 episode series, a 40 episode Serbian reboot launching on Blic TV in Serbia and a Mongolian version launched a 32 episode series on NTV .
Since its launch on ITV, UK in 2005, Cash Cab has become one of the top 10 most travelled quiz shows in the world, with over 9,000 episodes produced in more than 50 countries including the US, France, Australia and Thailand. Proving it still has plenty of miles left in its tank, 2023 saw brand new adaptations of Cash Cab launched in Canada (French), Germany, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Vietnam.
