The emotional family drama series, Butterfly, has been acquired by Canada’s national public broadcaster, CBC. The deal with Fremantle, will see the Red Productions 3 x 60’ mini-series launch on CBC in late winter 2019. The drama follows the story of an 11-year old boy who makes the life-changing decision of wanting to live life as a girl.
Created and penned by BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Tony Marchant and starring International Emmy award-winning actress Anna Friel (Marcella, Broken), Butterfly is a heartfelt and sensitive drama about the complex relationship between separated parents. Vicky (Anna Friel) and Stephen (Emmett J. Scanlan) are divided in opinion over how to support their youngest child, Max (Callum Booth-Ford). From a young age, Max has identified as a girl but has tried to suppress these feelings to earn Stephen’s approval.
Butterfly was commissioned by ITV and produced by RED Production Company and AENON. The series was written, created, and executive produced by Tony Marchant. Nicola Shindler, Caroline Hollick and Adam Kemp are executive producers. The series is distributed globally by Fremantle.
