This week, Globo will present its latest productions at the Rio2C – Rio Creative Conference, showcasing its absolute success in Brazil and abroad. The panels will break down the network’s investments in co-productions, such as ‘Under Pressure’ and ‘Jailers’, innovations like ‘God Save the King’, and backstage access to George Moura’s new series scheduled to premiere this month: ‘Onde Nascem os Fortes’ (“Where the strong are born”, in a loose translation). Rio2C regarded as one of the most prominent events for the audiovisual industry in Latin America will be held on April 3-8 in Cidade das Artes, in Rio de Janeiro.
On April 4 at 6:30 p.m., Ana Gabriela, Production director at Globo, Andrea Barata Ribeiro, owner-director of O2 Filmes, Andrucha Waddington, owner and director of Conspiração Filmes, Caio Gullane, founder and producer at Gullane, Gustavo Baldoni, executive director of the TV branch of Conspiração Filmes, and directors José Eduardo Belmonte and Luciano Moura will participate in the ”Outstanding Productions!” panel, , held in room 1 – Sala Grande (Pitching Show Stage). The panel will be hosted by critic and screenwriter Rodrigo Fonseca, discussing the aesthetics and narrative of series that have been a reference in quality, held in partnership between Globo and independent producers. Set to premiere this month on Globo in Brazil, ‘Jailers’ was recognized abroad and won the MIPDrama Screenings at MIPTV 2017, in Cannes. ‘Under Pressure’ has been acclaimed in festivals around the world, winning four awards at the Festival International des Programmes Audiovisuels earlier this year. ‘Thirteen Days Away From the Sun’ will be released to the international market as part of Globo’s licensing catalog in April, at MIPTV 2018.
In the panel ‘God Save the King: A Medieval Experience’, artistic director Fabrício Mamberti, producer Babi Monteiro, and Technology and Entertainment operations manager, Fernando Alonso, will discuss the research, challenges, details and fun facts about the visual effects used to shoot the telenovela. The presentation will be held in room 2, Chamber Theater, on April 6, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Daniel Adjafre’s telenovela has seven to eight times more effects than most Globo productions, with CGI effects in virtually every scene. “I’ve been working with visual effects for almost 20 years, but this is the first time I’ve worked in a production this big. The whole process required extensive planning. We worked out the visual reference research one year in advance. Pre-production began with concept creation work and lasted almost nine months. We produced more than 400 concepts so that the entire team had the same vision of our visual identity”, said director Fabrício Mamberti.
In ‘Onde Nascem os Fortes: a Terra, o Céu e o Coração em Movimento’, which will be presented on Saturday, April 7, at 5 p.m. in Room 1, authors George Moura and Sergio Goldenberg, and artistic director José Luiz Villamarim, will talk about the creative process, representation of the Brazilian Northeastern backcountry, and the experience of producing a piece almost entirely shot in the region of Cariri, in Paraiba’s state. Journalist and presenter Bianca Ramoneda will host the event.
Globo’s artistic director, Amora Mautner, will join the “The Art of Directing” panel to talk about the art of direction, careers, differences between genres, and how to imprint your identity on each piece. She will be accompanied by directors Carolina Jabor, Flávia Lacerda, Sandra Kogut, Eduardo Milewicz and Laís Bodanzky. The meeting will be held on April 5, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
The event will also include a travelling kiosk with the costumes used in Globo’s latest telenovelas. Participants can interact with the props and characters, immersing themselves in the creation process through a unique artistic experience. In addition to the costumes, audiovisual content will show the history of the items on display, including the creation process, the conceptual boards developed by the costume designer, and the scenes where the actors actually used each costume. To round off the experience, an interactive app will allow participants to take pictures with the telenovela’s stars and post them on social media. After a trial run at Globo Studios, the kiosk will go to R2C and then travel across Brazil.
