Modern fantasy romance drama Fairy from the Painting has exclusively premiered on iQIYI yesterday, 17 November 2022. Set in modern China, the series stars Peter Sheng, from the popular drama Go Princess Go, and Wang Mohan, a contestant from Produce 101 China.

Bearing similar skills with the story’s character, Peter Sheng plays the role of Gu Yancheng, a fashion design major. Fairy from the Painting depicts a deep and unique story behind the heirloom passed down from generation to generation in Gu Yancheng’s family. Having an uncanny resemblance to the sculpture and the woman that constantly appears in his dream, Xun Yuxuan (played by Wang Mohan) attracts the attention of Gu Yancheng who has lost his sculpting ability. Developing a relationship that started with a motive, this couple is bound to send some hearts aching for Xun Yuxuan.

An adaptation from the popular novel of the same title, the show was highly anticipated by many fans of the original novel. Gu Yancheng and Xun Yuxuan are both entangled in a marriage and a promise from decades ago to meet in this life, the two fulfilled their promise and by fate got to know each other. With an unknown red string tying the two together, Gu Yancheng unknowingly comes to Xun Yuxuan’s rescue whenever she needs help.

Directing the show is director cum actor Tak Yuen who is also the 15th grandson of Confucius, has received numerous awards for his excellent action designs on set. With 20 years of experience in the industry, he was also under the mentorship of Yu Jim-Yuen and trained alongside big names like Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung before he shifted to behind the scenes in the 1970s. Under Tak Yuen’s guidance, this group of fresh and young budding actors are bound to provide an exceptional showcase, gaining much popularity at 2nd on the trending charts right after its premiere day.

Fairy from the Painting depicts a story about Gu Yancheng, the heir of the Gu Group who lost his sculpting ability, meets Xun Yuxuan, a on-call chauffeur who looks similar to the woman in the “Fairy Emblem” that has been passed down in his family for thousands of years. The strangest thing is that he will unconsciously rush forward to protect Yu Xuan whenever he sees her in danger. In order to verify his reaction, and also how Yu Xuan is helping him recover his sculpting ability, Gu Yancheng plans to let Yu Xuan become his driver and assistant for her to live in his home. One is a narcissist and extreme perfectionist, the other a big-hearted and strong assistant. These two started off with a mutual dislike but with the “cohabitation life”, the two of them start falling for each other. Gu Yancheng starts becoming the caring yet domineering CEO. However, as their relationship progressed, Yu Xuan found out about “Fairy Emblem” and how this has all been fake.
