Seoul- The 11th Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (SICAF), which ran May 23-25 at SETEC, drew 130,000 visitors and copious entries for the SICAF Promotion Plan (SPP) Project Competition, the animation festival and the international digital cartoon sidebar. The SPP attracted 360 companies and 270 buyers from 21 countries including the U.S., Canada, Spain, France, Japan and China; last year there were around 100 buyers and 220 companies participated. Prize-winners in the SPP Project Competition were: Characterplan Co. Ltd.’s 15 x 26 comic action/adventure Colin the Invincible (Best Planning); Olive Studios’ 26 x 10 comic edutainment Cuties (Best Technology); and Sieun Design Inc.’s 80-minute fantasy Merry Christmas TeTe (Best Creativity). In the Animation Festival, Joe Bum Jin’s AAICH & SSIPAK won the grand prize for features; Germany’s Olis Chance was named best TV series/special; France’s The With Wolf was best short; and Spain’s Bandito Machine was best internet animation. In the second SICAF International Digital Cartoon Competition, Yune Hyun Seok’s Homerun for You took the grand prize, and Kim, Jin Seok’s Regression Therapy collected the first prize.
