Sydney/Alviso, California: The Seven Media Group’s deal to bring TiVo to the Australian market in the first half of next year, in partnership with TiVo Inc., has opened a new front in the commercial war with arch-rival Foxtel. Seven said the DVR will be available to other broadcasters and broadband content owners to create an interactive, free-to-air digital terrestrial television offering, and the service will include features like SeasonPass recordings and WishList searches and allow users to access broadband content on their TV. That brought a scornful response from Foxtel, which bragged that more than 200,000 Australian homes already have its DVR, FOXTEL iQ, and more than a third of all new customers are signing up for it. “By the time TiVo launches into the market in Australia, the FOXTEL iQ – a superior DVR to TiVo – would have been in the market for over 3 years,” Foxtel stated.
