Nonthaburi, Thailand- Shin Broadband Internet (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (SBI), subsidiary of Shin Satellite Plc., have launched DTV, its new Ku-band satellite dish set to receive free-to-air television programs with no monthly fees. Shin Broadband Internet will launch DTV Fantastic Caravan vans to promote the product in four regions of Thailand. Billed as the most economical satellite dish set in Thailand and the region, the company aims to install up to one million DTV sets across the country within 2008. According to Shin Broadband’s latest marketing survey, most Thai viewers still predominantly watch free-to-air channels tend not to want to pay monthly fees. The DTV satellite dish can be easily installed by technicians while consumers can move away from Yagi aerials which are more expensive and offers lower quality signals. Tanadit Charoenchan, General Manager of SBI., reveals DTV has been in development since 2006, and that the company aims to build a satellite TV dish set which is affordable to all households.
