Bangkok – Thailand’s TV industry faced a 3.22% fall in advertising spending in the six months to June to 25.45 billion baht (US$748.59 million) from 26.299 billion baht ($773.5 million) for the same period last year. Neilsen Media Research data released July 11 also showed TV’s share of ad spend fell to 58.37% from 60.03% over the same time. June’s monthly data revealed Thailand’s troubled political climate and uncertainties over the past year, where TV ad spend fell by 11.84% to 4.08 billion baht from 4.63 billion baht a year ago. TV’s share of total ad spending fell to 56.12% from 59.74% for the same month in 2006. The major gain came in the cinema sector that rose 191% to 1.98 billion baht in the half year from just 679 million baht in the half year of 2006. Newspaper’s share of ad spending – the second largest in terms of overall market share – fell by 5.18% to 7.35 billion baht or 16.87% of overall ad spend in the six months to end June.
