Sydney- SPAA Fringe has joined with Avid Australia to enable five teams of aspiring filmmakers to produce, edit and live stream a short film at the SPAA Fringe conference in Sydney on October 26-27. Dubbed Avid Australia Fast Flicks, the competition will showcase how technology and ideas can be created in real time, on pro equipment and distributed immediately. The competition is open to all aspiring filmmakers who are registered delegates of SPAA Fringe. Individuals or teams can apply by submitting their scripts. Each applicant selected will get to ‘hire’ a writer, producer, director/DOP and editor. On the first day of SPAA Fringe, each production team will be given a camera and will have to finish the film in two days. Completed films will be screened at the closing session in front of 500 delegates and streamed live; films will also be emailed to an industry database of at least 20,000. The winner gets prizes worth more than A$10,000, including Avid Media Composer software for Mac or PC. SPAA Fringe is organized by the Screen Producers Association of Australia.
