Singapore – MediaCorp is set to provide extensive coverage of the 2008 FIA Formula 1 World Championship Races, including the inaugural 2008 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix over multiple media platforms including TV, radio and print. MediaCorp’s range of F1 offerings will roll out from March 14, 2008, and will culminate in the live telecast of the Singapore races held from September 26–28, 2008, on MediaCorp TV Channel 5, the official free-to-air broadcaster in Singapore. The Singapore leg of the F1 season is the first race to be held at night and is the first street race in Asia. Unveiling MediaCorp’s multi-prong approach to cover the F1 races, MediaCorp’s CEO Lucas Chow, decked in a racer’s suit, signed the broadcast rights agreement with Teo Hock Seng, chairman of Singapore Grand Prix at a press conference with an F1 race car on set. MediaCorp TV Channel 5 is scheduled to air the practice rounds on September 26 as well as live feeds of the qualifying and final races on September 27 and 28 respectively. In the lead up to the Singapore races, MediaCorp’s media platforms will offer news coverage of F1 races worldwide with the reportage to span across TV, radio, print and web properties. In TV programming, Channel NewsAsia will broadcast from Mar 14, Inside Grand Prix, a year-long series with each of 18 episodes airing to coincide with races internationally. Inside Grnad Prix features race previews, behind-the-scenes and racer profiles. In addition, MediaCorp TV Channel 5 will offer GP Racing (26 X 30”), a topical series with event previews, business insights, and features on teams, people and companies behind the sport, airing Saturdays from Mar 15 – Nov 8; GP Story (26 x 30”), a series chronicling the development of the sport, airing Sundays from May 4 – Nov 2; as well as GP Interstitials, a series of generic content on cars and the racing track airing Mondays – Thursdays, from Mar 17 – Nov 6. In print, MediaCorp’s Today newspaper will produce special supplements to inform readers about the F1 starting with a 14-page offering on Mar 15 on the history of motor racing. A book on the history of racing in Singapore authored by Today journalist Ian De Cotta is also being lined up. MediaCorp magazine titles including FHM and Arena will also produce racing themed supplements and organize social events for clients. In radio, 987FM and Class 95 stations will jointly host racing events in August 2008 to promote motor racing as a prelude to the Singapore F1 races. In addition, MediaCorp is providing a range of through-the-line packages, entitlements and hosting opportunities for its clients and advertisers, with details to follow.
